Why do women complain about being objectified but then wear provocative clothing?

How are you going to bitch about being seen as a sex object while your tits and ass are hanging out of your clothes? Is that what "female liberation" has dissolve to? Having the right to dress slutting and encouraging young girls to do the same? I wouldn't be so pissed off about this subject if I didn't see this on the Daily Show. Since when was bitching about school dresscode actually news-worthy? While I do find it stupid that schools say "It's distracting to boys to wear leggings", that's doesn't me you should wear something that shows your camel toe. And don't give me that "You shouldn't be looking there" excuse. If a guy had his penis hanging out in public, so many female would call the police and cry rape culture.

What Girls & Guys Said

  • There are a couple things here.

One is that people should be treated with basic human respect no matter how they dress. However, they shouldn't imagine what they are dressing doesn't shift what could be reasonably interpreted as basic human respect. If you wear a t-shirt saying "I'm a lesbian" you can rightly complain sooner that guys hitting on you are 'harassing'. Is it okay to approach a woman in public and ask after pleasantries if she'd like to hook up? It's legal. To imagine that whether the woman is in a club wearing a short skirt, or grocery shopping wearing a niqab makes no difference in whether that is an acceptable question is absurd. And I'm not suggesting 'women must cover up or risk being assaulted!!!'. Not at all. I'm saying that if men or women broadcast a more relaxed attitude to sex, they shouldn't be offended if they get -within that context- polite offers to have sex.

Second is the simple 'don't look at me like a sex object'. There was a 16 year old here earlier this week with two questions, hours apart. One asked if some pics looked okay, wear she was wearing a crop top and some revealing skirt or leggings I can't remember, showing her ass shape, etc. The other question she was saying 'don't you hate it when guys call you 'sexy''

    Come the fuck on.

  • The "boys being distracted" thing shouldn't be "annoying" it's simply biology and it can't be reprogrammed. If a female is showing her sexual parts (and leggings being worn as pants are essentially body paint made from thin material), then they are sexualizing themselves and it is distracting to everyone, not just the boys. The staff and even other females (since women compare themselves to each other)

But I do agree it is bullshit that females are constantly claiming about being sexualized but then do whatever they can to wear as little clothes as possible.

Look up not-for-attention. tumblr. com (NSFW) and you will see all the hypocritical types of clothes worn in public (and around children) which is common and very inappropriate. If we have to put a NSFW warning before looking at the images... then it shouldn't be allowed in public. And these same women are the idiots who complain when guys look up their skirts, yet they are openly flashing their shit to begin with. It's just a reason for them to play the victim.

    • The "It'll distract boys" excuse is stupid because all it does is make males out to be uncontrolable sex fiends and fuel the fire of "Rape Culture and Victim Blaming" rhetorics from the other side. When someone says "Your clothing distracts EVERYONE" then they can't use their victim card.

    • Exactly. Thank you. Imagine a teacher wearing the clothes that young girls wear to school and see how well the students learn without distraction... it would be hard for them to focus, male or female.

  • Wow, QA! You have grown up a bit, haven't you. Last time I logged in to GaG a year or two ago you were a pretty hard line feminist nut job who would have totally disagreed with everything you just posted here today. Nice to see your views are developing in the right direction.

    • The fuck are you talking about? A "pretty hard line feminist nut job" would claim every man is a rapist and a woman is always the victim of situations. I have done no such thing. I have always been about gender equality. White, Black, Feminist, MGTOW, I don't care. Stupidity and bigotry has no race or gender.

    • Mmm hmm

  • The ever popular, "How dare you react the way I expected but not be attractive to me!" scenario.

  • A girl can walk around damn near naked if she choose to and that still shouldn't give anyone the right to disrespect her. I dont have my ass hanging out but when I go to parties, I might wear a tight dress or a short dress because I think its cute, that doesn't mean that I want some random pervert thinking "Yea she's a slut" then push up on me expecting sex.

    • Don't ask for respect if you don't have the decency to cover yourself. I don't care how "proud" a woman feels about her body, no one but perverts wants to see her breasts, her ass, or her vagina. I have no problem with a tight dress or a short dress... as long as I'm not seeing your goodies.

    • He still does not have the right to violate her body because of her choice of clothing. It's not even a question of do she need to be respected or not? It's HER body. That line should NEVER be crossed. I have been touched inappropriately by a much older guy before & to this day it still bothers me that he had no respect for my body even though I wasn't even dresesed revealing! But I still dont think a girl who is dressed revealing should get violated either.

    • Actually if a woman chooses to walk around like a slut or naked then yes, I DO have the right to disrespect her, because she is being offensive.
