Why do you think women are sexualized in Hollywood?

I've noticed more often, that movies and shows have been more sexualized. More nudity, sex and revealing outfits. I feel like women are being more objectified these days.

Whats your take on this?

  • More sex appeal = higher sales

  • There are MANY women, acting, in movies, and they refuse to do nudity in any way, even with a body double!
Why do you assume that it is just objectification, rather than maybe some thinking that nudity might get them more money, maybe more attention?
Maybe some are comfortable with their bodies, and don't mind, or care about being nude?
If you had some legitimate statistics to support your opinion, and those showed definite 'abuse' I would totally support you, and be against it, but I have seen nothing. . .
Both men, and women, like seeing attractive people, in movies, and that makes people want to go see them!!
Men, showing bare chests, and their legs, like in some movies, are not being considered, here, with this question, but how is it different?

    • I actually lie to see movies with average to under average looking people with charisma... It’s relatable and a good indication the acting might be legit 😛😊😊

    • @VIVANT Like "average" people, like you could meet on the street, or checking expiration dates, on milk at the Grocery store! Those that are just somehow REALLY attractive, in their own way, or mannerisms, and they catch your attention?

    • Hmm I mean like real looking people who have to rely on their talents to mesmerize people. I don’t trust conventionally atttwctyve actors bc they rely on looks to elicit emotional responses. Even if they are good actors it’s the fact they can rely on looks if they need to. Acting is really amazing it’s transcendental... I like to see people really develop a skill. Actors that are only in demand for ten years until gravity kicks in, don’t have time to develop their Skill. This is why lost well known actors are men. Bc women are prioritized based on looks and tossed aside just as easy. I have respect for films where the actors are just so do looking. The film is going to have to make it on its merit and talents and work. The more attractive the cast the lower my expectations. And it’s fitting Hollywood just Recycle the sane stuff all over bc they just want pretty people to fit into a cookie cutter story. Being attractive isn’t bad in itself it’s just when that is the priority everything else suffers.

  • Cause sex has sadly been turned into something we monopolized. Men, women, and Hollywood are all part of the issue... it's everywhere these days. It's in the movies, the tv shows, the music, the internet etc. because America has become an extremely obsessive and overly hypersexualized country when it comes to sex. That's why it's constantly promoted, they know the American people are obsessed with sex and that's what bring in the attention or money. This is why sex has lost it's value and sacredness within our society, it's so in our faces that people no longer see it has something that use to be an intimate moment between two people that doesn't need to be shared with the world all the time. Now a days sex is almost treated like past time hobby you do when your bored. America is actually the most pornographic country, the porn field is an billion dollar industry and we have the most porn sites for streaming and online.

  • Not only in hollywood, did you saw how most girls nowadays are acting in general?

  • In Hollywood? Don’t you mean everywhere?

  • Most Regieseurs and Producers are male.

And Sex Sells in any business.

  • I think we as women haven’t fought back enough to maintain our dignity. We are over sexualized because we allow it. We fear that if we don’t do it than that will effect our pockets.

    • I think a solution to this is perhaps be a bit more lenient in which guy is sexualized. Girls of all types caan get sexualized, but perhaps if the average guy was too, wouldn't it balance it out? Women CAN make that happen anytime, meaning then sexualization would lessen in value if it's suddenly easier, eventually making it a lot less of something useful in marketing and such.

    • in my opinion nobody should be sexualized. Everyone should be able to dress how they want whenever they choose without becoming a target

  • Last I checked, every male lead in non comedy is chizzled hunk of a man. Sex and violence sells.
Now turn it around: why do YOU keep watching movies like that? Something entices you, don't it?

    • If I watch a film with those things in it i tend to fast forward it. So does my husband.

    • No, most lead men aren't hunks. Joaquin phoenix for instance is an average dude. Hunks are a very VERY small percentage compared to sexually objectified women.

  • I cannot bear this.
As long as it’s in context in a film, fine. But oftentimes, it isn’t necessary.
It’s not like we’re seeing unnecessary nude men as well. It’s just women. It’s pointless, downright boring and sexist rubbish!

    • I agree!

    • I never see that, where do you see that?

  • Because people fall for objectified sex to the point where they’ll spend money on it. It’s really sad when you take a really deep look at it.

A lot of women objectify their beauty/sexuality for a sense of self worth and validation. Think how easy it is for the average woman to get thousands of likes from strangers on social media by posting a twerking video half dressed vs the same woman just posting a selfie. That type of attention can become very addictive and a lot of women misinterpret that type of attention as admiration and respect.

On the other hand, you have men who not only will pay these women attention but also throw them money. That’s why things like strip clubs and porn exist. They aren’t necessarily respecting or admiring these women but instead their fueling the desire to be validated and admired by these women even if it’s just an illusion. These women wouldn’t be sexualizing themselves if they weren’t getting something in return.

Men can get false validation and admiration from women by throwing money. Women can get false validation and admiration from men by throwing their bodies. This only happens of the man/woman doesn’t have a healthy source of genuine love and admiration-parents, friends, etc. If a child gets a healthy amount of love and support from their parents they won’t try to fill the holes through other means.

Short Answer- Hollywood capitalizes on the insecurities of average people through many ways. Men and women seek love, admiration and validation from eachother in different ways. For men it’s sex. For women it’s attention. Men use money to buy the sexual attention women are capable of selling. Sex sells.

    • u talk about who love porn, etc even tho u are a person who hate porn huh? how could u even understand what they think when u not even one of them? a lot of ur statement is assumption.

    • Never said I hated porn.

    • i guess i miss understand that, but even then i think u misunderstand people who pay for girl, for exp when u pay on internet like bigo or chat sex, tipping the girl something, the girl doesn't actually doing anything specific for u , so they doesn't pay for attention, they simply pay bc they want to have more fun when masturbate, or feel sexual feeling, so the idea about lack of love is wrong in most case, beside, there can't be that much people lack of love isn't it? since there is a bunch of strip club and a lot of fan for a girl. about the girl part, they simply love the feeling to showing off their body , it doesn't have to be about 'admiration and respect', and im sure most of the girl realize that most people just love her body in sexual way, and that what the girl love to feel. so not everyone is like ur explaination

  • They play just as much of apart of this by voluntarily taking off their clothes. They are not victims only whores training future whores in getting attention.

  • Because that's what most people want to see. I don't think they are being objectified tho and they don't need to take the role if they aren't okay with it

    • Oh wow a girl that's not completely pathetic.

    • Häh why would it be?

    • Because it often is.

  • Once they realized it makes more money, there was no turning back. I think sexualized content should have it's own place in the world, but I can't stand the sexualization of women being the Hollywood standard.

  • Because people (males and females) like sex.

  • Can't agree more. Every single TV show or movie that has such thing it means it's bad. Never watched game of thrones, look at breaking bad! That is just one simple exempel.

  • Sex sells its somthing that has always worked and both genders exploit this

  • You've noticed wrong, then.

Sex and eroticism is playing a larger part for men and women. But it's still film and not pornography.

Fashions are changing for clothes, and women clothes in Hollywood reflect that. Mens fashion don't change too much.

  • Not really a bad thing. Shrugs. It's a bad thing when it's wrote distasteful which is different to a sexualized women in a film.

  • i think is the opposite, today there are too much restrictions, we aren't born dressend, if you don't accept nudity, you don't accept the nature, of course im not saying that peoples should walk naked in the streets, we avoid that for hygiene, but if some girl is in at home for exemple and want to show her body, where is the problem?

    • seems like you are jealous of the beautiful girls showed on tv, and your insecurity makes you nervous, thats's bad, if there are men showed shirtless you will not blame, i saw this behavior in many insecure girls

  • Hollywood does what they think will sell.
