many reasons. If he's lying about one why not lie about most? That would boost his "reputation", among his friends at least. IF he never lied before then there is always a first time. It had nothing to do with that "particular" girl except, perhaps, people knew he had taken her out. But the girl is interchangeable-all that matters is her "hotness" and the fact she owns a vagina. Guys in High School are not seeking a true honest romantic relationship. Their hormones are exploding and they all believe they are the last American virgin because all the other guys brag they lost their cherries "years ago" (most are still virgins while claiming this). Of course these are generalizations and everyone is different and there are ALWAYS exceptions-but what I've said is true for about 90%

@hi_it_is_me123 Excuse me, but the question was about why it effects his ego-- if I can read, and I can-- and that is what relates to the example I used. Obviously wearing makeup is not a perfect parallel to lying about having sex with someone, or on the same level in every way. And I never claimed it was.

The opinion owner is right. Please stop harrasing her. The question is not concerned with what is more morally valid, Makeup or spreading lies about someone. It's about why it affects someone's ego and she is right, it's because you get moved higher up in the social hierarchy (if you are a pre or a teen). Angelique it has nothing to do with confidence, confidence comes from competence. If it had something to do with confidence they would do it even when no one had the chance of seeing them but most people only do it when they are going to be viewed by others or are in high visibility areas. Why? To move themselves up in the social hierarchy ie ego boost via manipulation and/or deception. @angeliquedevereux2

What I said has said has nothing to do with what harmed anyone. The question is not about who is getting harmed and that is what I tried to highlight in my reply. What he did is probably illegal (I think) and I agree with you but the argument just isn't about what is illegal, it's about in what way does it or can it boost a guy's ego and why he would do something like this. What the opinion owner here said that the principle behind both is similar and that is accurate. Make-up does cause harm to some degree (I won't go into it) but what he did and makeup is not really comparable. And that seems like common sense, at least to me. (I think).

Please read. I am agreeing with you and I am also saying it is probably a legal offense and he is liable to whatever punishment the court decides upon. One reason I am not concerned (as concerned) about it as you probably are is because most people (even kids and highschool students) know he is not telling the truth and the probabilistically know that most people lie (especially about these kind of things). Just because somebody says something doesn't mean anyone has to or will believe it. And again if the question is what colour was the car? You are trying to say or ask this is the engine of the car. Everybody knows the engine of the car, I have faith that the situation is handled so I am only concerned with answering what the colour is. People spread and try to start rumours all the time and I have seen enough of these things to think that the reputation of the girl probabilistically will not and ever be damaged by this.
You should tell him that the girl that he is bragging about called and said that he got her pregnant. That or he gave her herpes; which ever would freak him out the most. So that he inevitably confesses his deception.
