You can tell a lot from a persons past experiance. A high body count could signal sex positive, experienced, creative, willing to try new things and good communications skills. Could also mean that the person has issues with emotional connection, easily dismiss partners, hard to be with etc.
It really should be none of his business because you could ask the same about his past sexual history and yes it sounds like he's controlling and also insecure. It shouldn't matter to him and shouldn't judge you so its really odd.
