Would you consider this to be sexual assault or rape?
adamjanovicExplorer
First of all, this has not happened to me, but I know girls that it has happened to. What if someone threatened to do something to you that could potentially destroy their life unless you had sex with them? For example, what if they knew a devastating secret of yours that they said they would expose unless you slept with them, even though you don’t want to? I know that it probably wouldn’t meet the legal definition of sexual assault or rape because the person didn’t physically force them self on you or use violence, but to me, that sounds like the sort of thing that Harvey Weinstein was doing. Do you think that qualifies as “forced sex?”

Correction: when I said something that could potentially destroy their life I meant YOUR life.
It would be rape, extortion, and blackmail. Further, if involving the internet it would cross a number of other criminal lines as well.

At the very least, it's blackmail. Personally, I feel that should be considered rape, especially if the person being blackmailed otherwise wouldn't consent to sex. Therefore, it sounds like a nonconsensual sexual act (rape) to me. With that said, I'm not a lawyer or legal scholar, so it depends on what the law says.

I don’t know, blackmail is usually just associated with money, and someone demanding you pay them off, in my opinion. I think when they demand sex it takes on a different meaning.

Not necessarily, they could be demanding an action, like sex, or giving them a false alibi in court, or whatever.

It's more accurately described as blackmail. I'm unsure of the technicalities behind consent, but disregarding legality and technical terms, I would consider it rape, yes.

It's not rape nor sexual assault. Just plain blackmail.

Yes it is. It is blackmail. Being forced to do something that you do not want to do. Personally depending on what the secret is I'd rather just tell people my secret. 😂

It is sexual assault. It could be rape, but as it was just something they said, it won't hold up in a legal sense.

It qualifies as sexual abuse as they use emotional blackmail to make you do something you don't want to. Emotional blackmail is a form of abuse and, in this particular case, it's sexual abuse.

So, how many times do you think that the extortionist would want to be pleasured to keep quite about whatever. Might as well face the music at the beginning.
