Would you fire this person if you learned that they had been sexually inappropriate towards a few young women?

House painter and an accused lothario.
House painter and an accused lothario.
Assume that you have purchased a house and it needs to be painted on the exterior. You hire a local painter who has a good professional reputation. He has given you an estimate that seems reasonable and he can start on the job immediately.

THEN. . . you discover that, despite the fact that he is married, he has reportedly been making sexual advances to a few younger women in your area. You don't know the painter personally, you don't know his wife, and you don't know any of the young girls who he was targeting with his advances.

Armed with this knowledge, do you let him begin the project or do you fire him because of his sexually inappropriate behavior?
Of course I would. I don't want to condone such behavior.
Vote A
Of course I would. I don't want to be associated with anyone who is morally bankrupt.
Vote B
Of course I would. Otherwise, people would question my moral standards.
Vote C
No, I would not. I don't recognize that behavior as morally deficient.
Vote D
No, I would not. I don't want to give in the woke cancel culture.
Vote E
No, I would not. The behavior is immoral but irrelevant to the task for which the person was hired.

Assume that the women who he propositioned are all at least 18 years old and that there is no suggestion of pedophilia, child abuse or endangerment, no attempts at statutory sexual battery.

  • First, I wouldn't pay someone to paint my house when I can do it myself for cheaper. 2nd if they were all at least 18 then there isn't a major issue

  • LIARS! None of the people who say they would fire him actually would.

Would you really take a loss of several days to find a new painter? That includes doing background checks and the works for somebody doing a mundane job that only takes a few days. You should be comfortable hiring a prisoner for such a pointless job.

The only way he would actually get fired is if news blew the story out of proportion.

Then where does it end? HE could claim to have a mental illness and then YOU would be in trouble for firing him. HE could identify as a young woman and claim he was trying to make friends in his own personal time. What right do you have to fire someone based on what they do in their personal life?

Based on this question, EVERYBODY has a guilty pleasure that could be a fireable offense.

  • No. I don't give a shit. These dumbshit young women call you 'creepy' if you even say 'hello'. Fuck them.

  • not listed but "no because they are only accusations without any proof as of yet plus its irrelevant to his painting my house" as well it could all be something quite innocent blown out of proportion, such as he gave a compliment as he was leaving one of tge accuser's homes after painting their house, something veing misheard, or maybe one of a lot of other possibilities.

  • It would be good to know the age of those he allegedly approached.
If the younger women were not of legal age- or even kids- and I had kids- I'd likely get someone else. If the women were of age, then I'd most likely keep him. All of mankind sins: humans are stuck with that. But, we can be forgiven through our Savior, and we- in turn- are called on to forgive. This might be nit-picking the terminology (since nothing was done directly to us needing forgiving), but I'd say the intent is there.

"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you". Col 3:13

  • Is there any proof?
I almost got fired because of a rumor but I challenged it. They didn't end up firing me but they didn't hold the one that started the rumor accountable either.
Is the guy a registered sex offender?
If there was proof I'd cancel the job.
If it was only rumor I'd be extra watchful.

  • I'm stuck between the last two. Adding in, I would have him finish the job, but never hire him again.

    • I would also not believe it unless there was some kind of hard evidence

  • Fire him

  • I don’t think I would based on accusations. If there were facts, I probably would find another painter.

  • Don't care about gossip or that cancel culture BS. Has fuck all to do with the job needing done.

  • I would fire his ass.

  • If there was a criminal record, I'd avoid doing business with him. If not, then at best, I'd be deciding based on 'hearsay'. Just let the man do what he's paid for.

  • If I want a job done, I’m not interested in what people say what he may or may not have done. Let the man do his job. If he breaks the law put him in jail, plenty of guys are unfaithful to there partners, you going to have several million men fired because they are fuck ups.

  • I had something like that happen. I hired someone who did that, but didn't know till during. I didn't fire him. I'm not supporting him with his acts by hiring him to fix what was needed to be done on the house.

  • Who ever you do wait till he has finished. Don't want a half finished job..

  • Would not condone the behavior nor would I want to be associsted with the working relationship.

  • And he is painting my house. 😗

  • The poor old guy is just trying to get laid, idgaf.

  • No I wouldn't fire him, I don't take gossip seriously, and if he was a bit of a perv at his age, this would indicate he still has healthy testosterone levels and be better able to do a good job,,,

  • Would you fire this person if you learned that they had been sexually inappropriate towards a few young women?

what if they threw money at the problem and for it to go away?
