Would you fire this person if you learned that they had been sexually inappropriate towards a few young women?

House painter and an accused lothario.
House painter and an accused lothario.
Assume that you have purchased a house and it needs to be painted on the exterior. You hire a local painter who has a good professional reputation. He has given you an estimate that seems reasonable and he can start on the job immediately.

THEN. . . you discover that, despite the fact that he is married, he has reportedly been making sexual advances to a few younger women in your area. You don't know the painter personally, you don't know his wife, and you don't know any of the young girls who he was targeting with his advances.

Armed with this knowledge, do you let him begin the project or do you fire him because of his sexually inappropriate behavior?
Of course I would. I don't want to condone such behavior.
Vote A
Of course I would. I don't want to be associated with anyone who is morally bankrupt.
Vote B
Of course I would. Otherwise, people would question my moral standards.
Vote C
No, I would not. I don't recognize that behavior as morally deficient.
Vote D
No, I would not. I don't want to give in the woke cancel culture.
Vote E
No, I would not. The behavior is immoral but irrelevant to the task for which the person was hired.

Assume that the women who he propositioned are all at least 18 years old and that there is no suggestion of pedophilia, child abuse or endangerment, no attempts at statutory sexual battery.

  • No, I would need evidence to believe in that in the first place

    • And if you did believe it?

    • I wouldn't

    • You wouldn't believe it or you wouldn't fire them?

  • If it's not a problem to the function, F.
My job is contact the police if there's anything criminal and help with evidence if I can.
If it's not criminal (IE, not preposition, sexual assault, etc) than it ain't my problem.
If it's criminal, the problem doesn't fix itself until the perp is arrested.
Also, due process exists for a reason, just because I believe the guy is a perp doesn't make him a per (or women, same thing), if I'm firing someone for doing something they didn't do I'm shooting myself in the foot.

Why? Because I've been through it. It's probably a reason not to let them near kids without suppervision.
I've heard when I was a kid from adult women that if they were single they would bang me, and I've received cups of feel from adult women as well, besides prepositioned.
And that while being less than 14. I also had one man preposition me while I was a teen.
From adults? Nothing more than that. And besides the gropping all could have been a joke.
And with the gropping none from known adults (that I can remember) and most could have thought I was an adult.

But of course, even if something ain't a crime and I think it's innapropriate and it makes you an asshole, I don't have to not treat you like an asshole whether you work for me or not.

  • I’d fire him. I wouldn’t want to support a guy like that

  • I would not fire him. There is no evidence that the accusations are true, and you don't punish people based on rumors. Moreover, even if it is true, it has nothing to do with the job I hired him more, and I am not the police.

    • Should read "Moreover, even if it is true, it has nothing to do with the job I hired him for, and I am not the police." I hate that I can't edit what I write.

  • As long as he's not a violent criminal, I won't mind him working for a living.

  • This seems rather personal.

  • If he's catcalling or similar then as long as it isn't on my site let him keep the job, if it happens on my site then he is out

If he is a sexual predator the I'll be painting my basement in red with the help of a pick shaft
