As it happens, my parents had a full size van, and I used to drive it constantly (I would leave them my car) because I went on lots of school trips and did DJ and sound gigs, so no one paid any special attention when I took it for other reasons.
Conveniently, we (my dad and I) got a good deal on it because, while it was designed to have 4 rows of seats, it had been special ordered with just the front bench seat (so just carpet where the back two benches would be) and then they canceled the order, and that van had sat on the lot for months because everyone who wanted that model wanted all the seats. The 2-row configuration was ideal for us, as we could put a bunch of kids and pets in the back, or a bunch of gear, or a mix of both. But it normally had blankets and thin mattress pads in the back. And while it had windows all the way around, they were tinted limo black, so as long as the lights were off on the inside, you couldn't see into the bed area.
Of COURSE I used this to my advantage as much as possible. A few miles out of town was farm country, and there were lots of places to park where you wouldn't have another car come by for hours. And there were many weekend camping trips "with the guys" where girls somehow found their way along.
I moved out at 19, and having a real place with a real bed was definitely better, but in those high school days, I did better than I would have ever been able to do because I had a place to take a girl and be alone. It still wasn't cheap, though - gas was expensive, and I spent a lot of money on air freshener, public laundry, and driving around with the windows open so that I didn't give the game away...
This isn't our exact van, but it's the same midnight blue with similar wheels. Just the windows are different.

Hahahaha! So, in the US, we call those “cargo vans”. I did own a van without passenger seats, but it was a stripped down passenger van. I never considered a mattress. Instead i collected three old reclining chairs and put them in back, without securing them in any way. It was fun just to go for a drive and let people ride in the back with their furniture deciding for itself what they would experience next. A few times i was a bit of a party wagon chauffeur.
