Is sex a basic human right?

In the Netherlands sex is considered a basic human right. So disabled citizens can recieve government funds to pay for prostitutes up to 12 times a year? In America you go to jail for trying to satisfy normal sexual urges, like hiring a prostitute. Something is wrong with us, we judge the people that can't find a partner for whatever reason and expect them to remain celibate. One of the reasons all our catholic priests are becoming pervs!.

Understand that the question is: a disabled person and i am now including people that for whatever reason cannot ever get into a sexual relationship (dis-formed, hideous, etc.) should have the right to hire a partner that is willing to perform coitus or sexual act for a monetary exchange. which they would never get otherwise

  • Nope. You have a right to seek it with a willing partner, but it's not a basic human right in the sense of entitlement. You're not entitled to sex.

    • To the sack of shit thumbing this down, go fall off a pier.

  • A Right and a Need are not related. If it were a right, who or what would enforce it? Even "needs" are not rights.

  • You asked first if it's a right and then a need. That's not the same thing so which is it?

    • I understand better now. yes sex is a basic human need and we are much more mentally ill today because we dont have those constant and natural connections. But to say it's a right would be false. Sex especially for men is an incentive to do and be better. For women there's a lot more going on mentally generally speaking. But you get guys like me who do become very emotional lovers as well. The best way to fix this would be an incentivization for men to take on the harder jobs required of them by society. Tradesmen are high in demand but less and less men are interested in those jobs because society frowns on them for not making lots more money. Yet a lot of these trades require a man's physique to be effective. Should prostitution be legal? Absolutely. Would I ever partake? Absolutely not. But there are folks that would have a better quality of life if they had this access openly so why not? Just keep them out of public eye, have these places business/office oriented just so kids dont get exposed to it. The vetting, inspections, etc that your country does is very good. I feel a prostitute needs to be licensed like she's selling a controlled substance just because of the risk of STDs and such.

    • I agree, but they dont have to be sleazy, they can be nice medical looking offices and treat it as a business of some sort. prostitution can be treated as treatment. keeping it safe and sound and not asleazy thing

    • Believe me having practiced in massage therapy it was off putting to see those nasty ass parlors that treat it a certain way. So I do get that what you mean and fully agree.

  • Priests are pervs because they are creeps who prey on kids. They can have sex with nuns of some other sorry sap that believes the shit that they pull out of their ass yet they choose to molest kids. Those are two separate incidents

  • While I think prostitution should generally be legalized I don't agree that sex is a basic human right.

A human right is something you are born with, not something that someone else has to provide for you.

Even food, shelter and other things have to be provided by someone else, unless you can grow all your own food, built your own house, etc...

To say its a human right would open up the door to all kinds of sexual violence, stating... its not rape, its my human right to have sex with her.

  • I think prostitution should be legal but I also find it personally distasteful. I think sex is a luxury; you can always masturbate. Of course I say this from a position of plenty.

  • I'm going to join the chorus people claiming that sex is a human need, but not really a right, but there's something else that I'm not seeing anyone mention. Sex goes much further beyond just the physical, there's also an emotional need to be wanted and loved by someone else, and sex with a prostitute will never, ever fulfill that.

This decree by the Netherlands just reeks of putting a band-aid over a festering wound.

  • Is consent a joke to you

    • What does consent have to do with anything?

    • He's calling sex basic right

    • This

  • Nope

  • This issue is a huge ethical grey area, but decriminalization is compelling, especially with the rise of incel culture.

    • I would say sex should be a right when it’s between two consenting adults. But it’s different when someone thinks you owe them sex. If that make sense

    • That is my basic stance as well, but pro-legalization arguments sound compelling whenever I hear them.

    • Yeah I can see that, interesting 👍🏼

  • That total bull shit, sex is not a basic human right... what the actual f**k.

    • Read my answer. The question will make a lot more sense.

    • @Lost_in_the_Woods lol I did

  • I do find it a human need but I also don’t find it to be one you need can’t survive without.

It’s more closely associated with mental health than anything physical. Depression and loneliness comes in like a flood to those looking for something they can’t find.

That being said, I don’t think sticking it in a place where droves of people have been before is exactly appealing. And even if I received a stimulus for not having anyone. I doubt my money would go to bang the girl who’s job is to bang a bunch of other people I probably hate. Don’t feel like having my D where their D has been really..

  • Basic rights and basic needs are different things...

It may be a basic need but it's certainly not a basic right. Cause you can be entitled to rights and since nobody is entitled to have sex with anyone, that's not a right. It may be a need though cause that's independent of rights.

  • I'm getting tired of self pleasure.

  • Voted B. It's a desire , rather than a need , it will FEEL like a need in younger males , that is for sure... and so glad that's not me anymore , especially as a single dad , which = celibacy , like it or not. And males have the double curse of a much higher sex drive on average , than the female , with little - no access to a sex partner in many cases , both in relationships & single. But it is not a right , as evidenced in our own species , the vast majority of genes passed on are from female ancestry. Other species it is even more competitive for the males. The female , bearing the greater & riskier reproductive role , is the reason for this.

    • You comment having a relationship and children, what if you were born with abnormalities that made you hideous to others you would think differently i think if you reached the age of 50 as you are now without ever feeling the pleasure of caressing and intimacy in the release when copulating. you can love without sex but sex is a strong urge to overcome

  • Sex with Ho is not my thing. Those who find sex a turnoff with someone who is paid for it, are out of the right to have sex if they can't find or get laid with someone they like.

So no, sex is not s human right because it takes two to want the same thing from their own free will.

  • Wanting to have sex is a natural physical desire. But it's NOT a need. Food and water are needs, and, to a slightly lesser extent, clothing and shelter. And, just as food and water are needs, so is the removal of waste products. But sex is not a need. Human beings can live without sex.

You might THINK it's a need. You might FEEL like it's a need. But it's not. It's just not biologically true.

  • Sex in particular is not a need, as evidenced by asexual people. But human intimacy is definitely a need and it can be expressed through sex.

  • Sex can be a need of human body, but it can't be a human right, because sex can't be done by a single person. One definitely need other one to have sex, but for that, he can't force him/her, if they don't want to do. Otherwise it will become a rape case.
If sex becomes a human right, no one will take rape cases seriously!!😓
And about prostitutes, suppose you're living in an area, where not a single prostitute lives. And you were unable to find any girl ready for sex. Then what will you do? Would you file a case against the girls depriving you from your 'human right'?

    • But legalise the prostitution can be a debatable topic for every country!!

    • what was said is nothing to do with rape, asking to legalize prostitution so you won't go to jail for your urges

  • I feel it should be legalized and regulated here in the US
