I don't necessarily think she meant for you to actually stop growing. It's the idea that they remember when you were just a little kid running around depending on them, the older you get they know that you are becoming your own person and sooner or later you will go out into the world and start doing your own thing. As a parent, I would assume it's a bitter-sweet feeling. Seeing your daughter/son grow into an adult but also remember when you were just a little baby which is something they probably miss seeing. The older you get the more problems to come.
