I've been talking to my GAGGer homies, and we came up with a few theories. This is a spinoff from a question I posted yesterday.
The dictionary definition is pretty straight forward, but there's a difference between text book answers and real-world answers.
Text book definition:
A form of sexual desire in which gratification is linked to an abnormal degree to a particular object, item of clothing, part of the body, etc."
The key element is, "sexual desire." The fetish can literally be about anything, but this object/concept must sexually arouse you.
I thought I had a beer and coffee fetish, but as it turns out, I don't. If beer and/or coffee made me sexually aroused, then it would be a fetish. Don't think so? I did some research and really came up with some doozies.

Well.. My ex used to try to raise my towel with her feet and touch me when I got out of the shower. On a few occasions oral came after. So.. In some weird way, I started getting aroused when she lifted my towel with her feet. Does that count as a foot fetish? 🤔 I guess it's good old fashioned conditioning.

The difference between a fetish and a preference is fairly straighforward.
We are used to the idea that different people like different aspects of others, eyes, nose, bum.. etc etc..
With a fetish however, the desired aspect, or object is a central feature of the persons sexuality. For a fetishist, the thing they like acquires a sort of "magical" quality, by which i mean that it commandstheir desires rather than just being something they like a lot.
This is why its called a "fetish" , as that term is defined as"an object believed to have supernatural powers, or in particular, a human-made object that has power over others." and it related to tribal magic.
So when for a person an object or personal aspect has a lot of influence over their sex drive, that is a fetish.
Scat is the actual term for coprophilia, coprophilia just seems to be the Latin or somehow medical word for it. I think a fetish starts when you're attracted to certain things. I also think it doesn't matter if you're just interested in other people doing it or if you're doing it yourself. I don't think that everyone has it to an abnormal degree because in my case I'm just getting aroused by the videos not by doing it myself
In the definition that I read, it was said that a fetish is about feeling arousal or sexual excitment when it's an object or a part of the body that isn't a sex organ (that is, "vagina fetish" isn't a thing).
But I guess there must be some exception because there's a "big penis fetish" out there, so I dunno.
That's very interesting. I never heard that before, but that might be right. But just when you think you have it defined, then you find an exception. So dicks don't count, unless they're big dicks. So then it's a size-queen fetish. So why don't people call it a boob or ass fetish, but they call liking feet, a foot fetish?
