Please, don't be offended, but I truly think that is such an unfair question and I really don't see how anyone could even begin to answer with without racial undertones or racial tension.
The answer would respond an equal amount to the readers of the answers as well.
We as Americans need to all let go of the past. Ee must forget to dwell on the mistakes made and just use it as a lesson learned to hake educated decision to unite us all under one banner.
We must forget the labels of Hispanic Americans, African Americans, Appalachian Americans ( as its not politically correct to say hillbillies anymore (that's a joke))
We must all united as Americans.. pure and simple.
As long as there is segregation, there will be racism.
Even racism in reverse, is still racism.
Any organization that has racial undertones, even the ones that do good are still promoting racial tensions. Even NAACP has outlived the days where this should no longer be acceptable in our society.
We all blend red, we all are the same, despite whatever our upbringing or geographic locations may be.
We are human

Because they could, that’s what happens with a slave no matter the skin colour or time frame.

Just look at the Romans and what they could do to their slaves.

not sure why skin colour is a major thing, the act of slavery is as old as man.

Humans have twisted mind.

If I throw myself out on the street and let men do anything to me, even the kindest of men will do the cruelest things.

Because deep down we are all aggressive, perverted creatures, thankfully limited by morals or religion or principles.

But when it’s just me and you, when we know no one sees us, we throw morals out of window and are just our cruel, primal selves.

they had no consequence.. it was about power. they used it as a form of torture/punishment as well. on top of that, some of them had secret love for their slaves.. which was…. idek what to say about that part.

I am not convinced that actual forcible rape was common. Planters wanted sexual favors that their wives would not provide. "High yeller" and "quadroon" house servants were more appealing to visitors.

They had undeserved power over them. They could do whatever they wanted to them and not expect a fight. Of course taking advantage of them was a trend. It was terrible

Probably because it was easy to do and get away with. Same reason a guy will rape a girl who is passed out and no one is looking. There’s a lot of sick people out there that will do what they think they can get away with. Slaves didn’t exactly have anyone they can go report it to.

Because any person capable of owning slaves has no regard for anything other than themselves and their own pleasure. It wasn't a white or black thing though. Only about 7% of white men owned slaves, and nearly 30% of free black men at that time owned slaves. It wasn't just black people that were slaves either, there was white slaves as well. Slavery is disguised as a racial problem, when it is truly a problem with people of power lacking humanity.

Because they had absolute power over their slaves to do so. Its like how medieval knights were far from the chivalrous heroes depicted but rather as far as the peasants were concerned a combination of the local murderer, theif and rapist.
