For someone who's just a pedophile? No. Because being a pedophile doesn't mean you did any harm to a child. It just means you're sexually attracted to them and that is a psychological disorder. They should be forced to therapy.
Now if they did anything to a child (I mean someone under 15 or so) then ya. I think considering anyone who's finished with puberty (around 15/16) is kinda stupid to consider them a child. I don't think it's right for an adult to f*** em, but I don't think it's a capital offense.
Now, a rapist? Exterminate them all. F***castrating them, just out right kill them. Don't waste the planet's resources (I'm not talking money, I'm talking food, air, water etc, things we're actually running out of believe it or not) on the scum who have proven they are willing to do harm to society around them in a serious way. This means the rapists, murderers, and business owners who steal billions from millions ruining people's lives (like the executives of Enron) should be executed and any assets they have ceased by the government and used for the benefit of society.
Some dood below mentioned a good point, I can't condone any form of capital punishment currently due to our justice system sucking a lot. It's more about prosecution numbers and case wins instead of justice. Here, watch these two things

In the cases of repeat offenders who indicate they are unable to control their urges, it is probably tbe best approach. Not as revenge, but rather because it can actually 'fix' the problem. The largest study done was a german one a few decades ago, on offenders with "extreme paraphilias" the reoffense rate was under 3 percent for those physically castrated vs 80 percent otherwise. Essentially, this may allow some people who are consumed by a violent sexual urge they cannot control to be reintegrated into society.
So ... it should be on the table. I'm almost tempted to say it should be voluntary, but would certainly have a likelihood of removing dangerous offender status or the equivalent.
Interesting study. Where could I read it? Whom did it study? Is physical castration legal in Germany? Did it get into other violent behavior exhibited by those physically castrated?
We really don't understand human behavior, and we certainly don't understand sexual behavior. One problem is there are various types of sexual assault. A few years ago I remember an NFL football player being charged with rape for having sex with a 16 YO prostitute that told him she was 18. Is it me or did the wrong person get arrested here. Forcible rape, date rape, statutory rape, etc. Child assault is particularly troubling to all of us.
As girls we have a tendency to send guys very confusing and mixed signals that may lead to problems. I try to be very upfront with a guy early on to avoid this. Respect goes both ways. When you date and play just to see what might happen things could turn out bad. I have never had much of a problem myself.
Yeah I think guys get a bad shake sometimes here. Just the accusation is bad enough, and being a girl, I don't always trust her side of the story.

Generally yes if there's enough history and proof his sexual crime should be punished in the most directly appropriate way. I don't think castration is enough for guys who mess with kids, try having their balls constantly and continuously tortured non-stop so that their entire lives consist of nothing but screaming. And special medical equipment to keep them alive so they don't die too soon to escape he pain. But for now, castration will do (actual cutting, not chemical castration). Then at least he can never experience an orgasm. That void between his legs will punish him somewhat, and the inability to ever climax again will punish him a second way. But, unfortunately over time he will become accustomed to his castration where his victims will always live with what he did to them.
Good luck getting that past the 8th Amendment.

no... two wrongs don't make a right. the problem is psychological. even if you castrate him, he's still going to have those sick thoughts. he's still going to want to assert his dominance over a woman. several studies indicate that capital punishment is not better at deterring or preventing crime. instead, capital punishment serves a retributive purpose. I'm not certain as to how a rapist should be treated. I suspect jail-time and behavioral modification would be a good place to start.
but honestly, whenever I hear about someone having gotten raped...the first thought that comes to my mind is what kind of physical torture I would like to impose upon the rapist :/

... but they should still be removed from society. I think rape/molestation go beyond satisfying sexual needs. I think they're genuinely sick. They would find other ways to take to victimize people. As such they would still be a danger to society.

I suppose it wouldn't be a bad idea to perform this elaborated surgery as long as it's done with the propoer equipments and anesthesia. But I would suggest drugging him deep in their sleep and by the monster wakes up, he'll find out he's missing this it.

Even then, that kind of torture is forbidden by our constitution.
I'm against it for the same reason I'm against the death penalty: we don't have an infallible court system. Even the qualifications for "beyond a reasonable doubt" by definition does not reach 100% certainty on the behalf of the jury.

nothing would be able to 'solve' it, what's done is done. I guess it would have to be the same sort of circumstances as the death penalty, like be 100% sure that they were guilty etc. also, would they be able to freeze sperm if they or their partner want children? etc etc, and all those other matters to take into account before doing something that can't be undone

I think it would depend on the case, but honestly if they did something bad enough to deserve castration it kind of defeats the purpose, they should either be imprisoned or executed. Even if you castrate someone they can still molest and use objects for penetration, which can actually be even more dangerous. Plus a lot of pedophiles and child molesters are women. How are we going to castrate them?

It's cruel and unusual punishment that has nothing to do with prevention of future crimes or rehabilitation, it's simple bloodthirsty vengeance, so it will never happen.
It would lower his sexual interest and likely lead to erectile dysfunction in time, so it would likely reduce the chance of the individual reoffending. I don't support it though, but it would have some preventative value. It would be alright if it was a choice as part of rehabilitation, if there was evidence supporting it.
I believe 100% that Rapists/Pedophiles deserve castration/capital punishment/& worse. I think rape is sick & people deserve to be severly punished for it!

I think it solves everything. I know many people who have been raped, & I can tell you, a person deserves much more for ruining an innocent person's life than castration/capital punishment/etc. I don't take anything I said back.
No. Pedophilia is a condition, it's not a choice. But if you act on your pedopjilia, it's a different story. As for rapists... well, they kind of deserve it. But they are protected by the constitution (in the US).

It's very easy to fall into that kind of mindset when you hear of the most notorious crime cases. Whether it be calling for murderers to be executed or sex offenders to have their nether regions chopped off. I'm guilty of it myself. It's just human nature I guess.
But in the cold light of day, such acts are not justice, just vengeance. Chopping genitalia off for rape would be indulging in emotive revenge fantasies, which is the last thing we need in any justice system. There are far more civilised methods of dealing with the most unsavoury members of society. We don't have to lower our own standards in the process of doing so.
