If someone says “I’m not sexually active”, would you interpret that to mean they’ve never had sex at all?

It can only mean being a virgin.

  • A girl goes for her initial appointment with a new OB-GYN and she is completing the new patient questionnaire. She comes the question "Are you sexually active?"

She thinks about it for a minute and then writes, "No, I just kinda lay there."

    • Thanks for MHO!

  • No. If someone says I don't make a good steak, it doesn't mean the person didn't have eaten a steak before.

  • Only if they are relatively young. Someone over 20 may have taken a break but had experience in the past.

    • @MrOracle GIGGITY GIGGITY... to that.

  • No I wouldn't interpret it to mean that they've never had sex. If anything I would assume it meant that they used to be sexually active. Otherwise it's a weird way to say "I'm a virgin". I would assume that a virgin would put it that way. It seems like someone is going out of their way to specify that, while they are not sexually active right now, they are NOT a virgin.

To be honest. I wouldn't assume that my take on that is shared by everyone. So it's absolutely possible that a virgin would describe themselves as "not sexually active." But it's a fucking weird thing to do. If you're a virgin, and you're going to disclose your level of sexual activity (for whatever reason) you say "I'm a virgin". At least in a sane world.

If at all possible... and/or appropriate... you really need clarification from the person saying this.

    • True, saying “I’m a virgin” really would be a much simpler way to say it if that was the case.

  • It can either mean they've never had sex or that they haven't had sex in a while.

The main thing is, I would take it as in this period of time, they're not sexually active. Doesn't matter if they're a virgin or not.

  • No just at that moment in time they ain’t getting any.

i had a nightmare dry spell in 2020 I went through a lot of it - not sexually active.

  • I'd think it was just not at the current time.

  • When you are active then inactive in something, it usually means you were involved with it, then walked away. It CAN also mean you never have with the activity in the first place.

  • nope, I see it as a temporary situation and not an absolute... and such is my case

also, that's what many doctors ask when it is relevant "are you sexually active?" and they do mean recently or currently

  • Probably that they haven't had it in a while.

  • No, it generally means they are not currently having sex.

It could also mean that they are having sex, but not very often.

  • i prefer to say "sorry I'm a little rusty, give me some time" lol

  • Just means they’re not currently having sex

  • It's hard to say it could mean they haven't had sex in a long time or they never engaged in real sex maybe foreplay or masturbation

  • Oh I click on B

  • I'd assume they mean they haven't had sex in a while.

  • It means they are not interested in casual sex.

  • It could be they just haven't had any in quite some time.

  • They rather masturbate. 💞

  • Not necessarily. It depends on their particular situation.

  • I say B.

  • It's been a while for me so I'm not sexually active right now.
