I felt I needed to own the downthumb, I feel there are forces outside the individuals control that would stop them from getting sex - and I believe it's wrong to blame yourself for things outside of your control. But I don't plan on going in depth.

I don't get what the issue even is, it's not hard to get laid. Be clean, dress nice, go to bar, club or use tinder. Honestly having meaningful relationships is the tricky part in my opinion.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is quite an intuitive and neatly thought out psychological framework that's easy to explain to just about anybody, but it isn't anywhere close to being a hard science. It can be useful to reflect on somewhat, but it should ultimately be taken with a grain of salt, much like myriads of other ideas from psychologists during the same time period, e. g. Freud and Jung.

I think the confusion here is in the definition. It’s not a need in terms of without it you can’t survive. It’s more of an emotional thing that enables wellbeing. I’d place it further up since it’s not going to cause death.
