Why would some women lie about being raped?

I read this and just got upset.

Why would you lie about being raped?

It's harmful to people who actually have been assaulted, because once you've been exposed mindless assholes will say "everybody who has been raped is lying".

It's harmful on the people who have been accused of it. This man couldn't sleep and he was afraid to work. He lost a lot of weight. (what is a stone?)

  • Statistically, the women who lie about being raped (above and beyond being complete bitches who honestly DO NOT CARE about other people, including real rape victims) did so for the following reasons

    1) they cheated. and when their sleeping around was discovered, they manage to turn it in to claims of rape.

    2) they regretted the sex. this might be the most common. they consented to sex, and later wished they did not. somehow they feel better about themselves ("I'm not actually promiscuous! I didn't even make a bad decision! he manipulated me, that's all!") when they accuse innocent people. There is even a growing movement to push the idea of "withdrawing consent after the act." That means exactly what it sounds like: there are women who are pushing the idea that if a woman REGRETS sex later, that that means the sex was rape, and should be treated as such.

    3) they are horrible people who just want to hurt someone else. Just like some men are horrible and rape a woman just because he can, some women are horrible and accuse a man just because she can. Just as a male rapist draws a sense of superiority and power and satisfaction by raping a helpless woman, making her his victim? so to do these women draw a sense of superiority and power, satisfaction, by knowingly destroying the lives of these innocent, and in the face of these charges, often helpless men.

The very short answer to your question is this: some people are bad people, and bad people victimize others for their own gain, even if that gain is only their own amusement. And some of these bad people are women, and they know that the very best way to harm a man is to accuse him of rape. Because no matter how much it is proven she lied, and that he is innocent, the very accusation will haunt him and hurt him for the rest of his life.
And that may not be very long. The number of men who are exonerated from charges, after being found innocent, who commit suicide because they can not deal with the fact that friends and family refuse to talk to them, that jobs refuse to hire them, that they are accosted in public by people who heard of the case? Not a huge number, but hardly a small one.

  • I knew a girl (in that I'd met her a couple of times - she went to a couple of parties that I went to with a buddy) who had falsely accused people of rape many times. We didn't know this at first, but she had been flirting with my buddy at a party, but my friend had gotten a weird vibe from her and wasn't engaging with her. A while later, she asked him for a ride to the store and some money to (presumably) buy some alcohol. My buddy told her "no" and she got upset.

A few days later, cops showed up and started asking questions about her. Fortunately, my buddy had never left the main room of the party, and there were plenty of witnesses to confirm that, but she'd accused him of spiking her drink and raping her in one of the bedrooms. The investigation turned up evidence that she'd made similar accusations multiple times, but that there was never enough evidence to prosecute. Unfortunately, she wasn't booked for giving a false police report - just warned.

Obviously, some women ARE raped, and ARE drugged at parties, and they absolutely need to be taken seriously when they report it. But there are always a few bad seeds who try to twist that to their own advantage. Obviously this girl's life was a mess, and she must have decided that she didn't have anything to lose by manipulating people that way.

It's sickening, but part of being an adult is the recognition that there ARE people out there who simply have no moral compass, as well as those who are mentally ill (sometimes not in an immediately obvious way) who will lie, cheat, steal, or do whatever they like without a drop of remorse or guilt. And you have to be ready to deal with that, because sooner or later, you will encounter someone like that in your life, and being naive or in denial isn't going to help you deal with it.

  • Attention.

I've been told by almost every female I've encountered at work (I work security/law enforcement) that they've been raped or are being raped. I've been in the room with a woman and four of my male fellow officers, and she looked right at me and told me that these men were raping her.

I was like, "Ma'am, you are fully clothed. These officers are not touching you inappropriately. I am watching everything they're doing. I promise that I would die before I'd let them rape you. I can also promise that these men are highly respectable and would do no such thing."

    So... attention. Yup.

  • Lying to get someone else in big trouble is insane. Some women falsely accuse others of raping because they're cruel, selfish (they do it just for attention), and imbecile (definitely not a smart thing to do). This evil act shows of how terrible of a human being they are. It was very low from her part to lie about getting raped. I'm aware that most do it because of revenge but it is still immoral and heartless to make an innocent person look bad and be jailed for a long time.
I read that article and I got very disgusted.

  • I don't know. It's messed up because it makes people less likely to take ACTUAL victims of rape seriously. I'm glad he was able to prove his innocence and she was punished. However, this is not a reason to immediately assume that all women who accuse a man of rape are lying (since I already see guys on this site jumping all over this).

Honestly, do women actually get money if they win a rape case? I don't see that as a motivator.

    • Yeah they can get money. They'd have to sue in civil court, for something like emotional distress.

    • Who cares if they get money if they win the case or not? What about the innocent persons life being destroyed forever?

  • Revenge and guilt seem to be the two big ones from what I've observed.

    • You missed not getting caught cheating. A lot of girls cheat on their boyfriend and when he finds out accuse the guy they were sleeping with of raping them.

    • @Jose_R I put that in the guilt category. They feel guilty for doing it and so to not get caught they start hurling false rape allegations.

    • It's less guilt and more about saving their own ass.

  • 1 stone = 14 lbs

  • Attention, or revenge. 9/10 times when it's about revenge, it's because the guy wouldn't sleep with her.

  • Because women are always believed when they accuse a man of rape so its an easy way to hurt him, gain power and control and it has little to no negative consequences. Some women lied about being raped because they where cheating on their boyfriends/husbands and where afraid they where going to get caught so they accused the guy they had sex with of rape in order to mislead. Again very little work is required for it to succeed and she will rarely be questioned about it.

  • Revenge, being a cunt in general, etc, etc.
